With our list of barristers' chambers, you can sell directly to decision makers throughout England and Wales.

According to Statista), there are approximately 35 thousand barristers and judges in employment in the UK. There is no record of every member of the Bar working in particular chambers, nor do we collect details of clerks or other employees.

Our list of barristers is intended primarily for clients to market their products and services to chambers and is not an exhaustive list of every member of the Bar who is a tenant.

Each time we make a representation to barristers’ chambers, we only request information for the people making decisions for the chambers. In many cases, chambers provide the information of barristers’ clerks rather than a senior member of the bar like a QC.

When looking for a particular barrister or chamber member you should consult a website like the Bar Council’s) or the website of the Chancery Bar Association).

Our current list of barristers’ chambers in England and Wales is as follows:

  • 221 barrister contacts (the name of a budget-holding decision maker)
  • The addresses of 237 chambers (so direct marketing campaigns can be targeted to specific areas),
  • 160 business telephone numbers, and
  • 45 business email addresses (including a chambers’ website address).

With a 12-month usage licence, you can direct email, phone, and postal marketing to chambers. More Than Words Marketing Limited and our media partners update our entire UK business directory on a 3-9 month refresh cycle.

Do you also want to market to solicitors?

Ask about our list of UK solicitors when you contact us. Our solicitors’ list was built with the same aims as our barristers’ list to help companies run email, telephone, and postal campaigns.

It includes:

  • 15,275 solicitors’ practices,
  • 13,789 solicitor contact names,
  • over 9,000 solicitor direct dial numbers, and
  • over 2,700 solicitor emails.
More Than Words note – looking for SIC codes for barristers? The UK SIC code for barristers is 69101 – “Barristers at law”.

What is a barrister?

Barristers (or members of the Bar) provide specialist legal advice to their clients as well as represent them in court. The Tribunal is a specialist judicial body with expertise in a particular area of public law.

What are the practice areas of UK law?

Legal services offered by members of the Bar include:

  • administrative law,
  • commercial law,
  • common law (including family law, housing, and personal injury law),
  • criminal law,
  • entertainment law,
  • environmental law, and
  • sports law.

What is the difference between a barrister and a solicitor?

Solicitors perform legal work outside of court, while barristers represent their clients in court. Most of a barrister’s work comes from solicitors’ practices and they will be hired to provide legal services in their particular fields. As a rule, solicitors don’t appear in court.

Rather, they either persuade the other side that their case is not strong enough to justify going to High Court or, in non-criminal disputes, are able to broker an agreement between the two sides to avoid the need for court dates.

The term “lawyer” in the UK refers to solicitors and barristers, and there is no legal definition of the word. In other words, a lawyer is someone who provides legal advice or represents clients in court.

Telemarketing to the list barristers

Clients need to be able to contact decision makers in chambers by phone, and telemarketing to barristers is a successful route to market used by many suppliers to the sector.

Listed chambers on our telemarketing database are part of our larger B2B telemarketing database, which guarantees the highest quality.

If my company does not have a telemarketing department, can you run telemarketing campaigns using the list of barristers instead?

If you don’t have an in-house telemarketing team, we can conduct managed telemarketing campaigns on your behalf. Contact us for more information on our telemarketing services.

What other information categories are there for barristers?

Various categories can be used when searching for barristers for your direct marketing campaigns.

One of the most prominent finance-related categories is business turnover (60%). Similar to employee categories, the information in this category is banded and sometimes modelled.

Additionally, there are other business categories relevant to the chamber itself:

  • website addresses (60%),
  • year when the chamber began trading (40%), and
  • incorporation date (which includes the company registration number).

Why do you not hold Scottish barrister details?

Advocates are the Scottish equivalent of barristers, offering legal advice and prosecuting and defending cases in court.

Training to become an advocate in Scotland is very different from that required to become a barrister in England and Wales. Advocates and lawyers in Scotland are members of the Faculty of Advocates (please click here for their website).

What is a Public Access barrister?

Founded in 2004, the UK Public Access scheme allows members of the public to contact barristers directly. Traditionally, solicitors, lawyers, and other professionals appointed barristers on behalf of their clients.

Public Access has gradually loosened its rules since its introduction, as the public has gained a better understanding of how it works and when it should and shouldn’t be used.

Consumers of legal services will largely benefit from Public Access, but it will require them to be more involved with the aspects of case management that lawyers normally handle.

A public access barrister may only take on a case if it is in the best interests of the consumer.

Please click here for the Public Access website search page.

What is the Bar Standards Board?

All barristers in the UK are regulated by the Bar Standards Board.

Education and training requirements for becoming a barrister are set by the Bar Standards Board. Every member of the Bar receives continuing education throughout their careers from the Bar Standards Board.

In addition to handling complaints against members of the Bar, the Bar Standards Board takes action against members of the Bar. There are four separate legal systems in the United Kingdom – English law, Scottish law, Northern Ireland law, and, since 2007, purely Welsh law.

Barristers, solicitors, and lawyers are regulated differently in each of these countries.

Please click here for the website home page of The Bar Standards Board and here for the website home page of the Law Society of England and Wales.

The website for the Law Society of Scotland is here and the website for the Law Society of Northern Ireland is here .
